So I did start flossing. I started and it wasn’t because I suddenly cared about my teeth for the first time in my life and it wasn’t from the guilt of my dad always saying, “we paid for braces for nothing ’cause you’re going to end up in dentures anyway,” it was because I was really bored one night.
And that’s how good habits start.
Probably.
In other news, I’m doing nanowrimo again this year. Here’s the synopsis I have on the site at the moment:
Part steampunk, part mystery, part science, part history – this is the story of Margaret and Alice in 1890s Japan. Passing as men, they gain entry into the tumultuous country grappling between tradition and westernization as foreigners pour in through open port cities. In a time where airships dot the skies, steamships are still the cheapest way to cross the seas, and Margaret and Alice arrive tired and direction-less, but eager to work as scientists in a country where scientific regulation in the foreigner cities is virtually unheard of. The possibilities for discovery are endless, but tensions run high as people fight over discoveries and tensions between Japanese and Westerners can occasionally spill over into the streets. All of which Margaret and Alice can easily ignore until the fight comes to them.
(a major departure from my usual writing, but I am excited by the change!)
Man, don’t you want to read that motherfucker? Doesn’t it sound like I know what I am doing? Tricked ya! (and yea, my synopsis totally includes that meta self-reflection at the end; I can’t resist the chance. I am doing it right now.)

I started flossing for the same reason! I have a little thing of floss next to my bed, and when I’m watching TV I’ll make my dentist happy.
And NaNoWriMo! That’s awesome. How many years have you done it? I’m participating, too. This is my fourth go, and (if I don’t lose an arm in the next four weeks) it’ll be my third win.
Are there any write-ins/NaNo groups in your neck of the woods?
nice! yea, during TV is a good time. Your brain is dead anyway, why not be useful? haha
And this is my 4th time but I’ve never finished. Work’s always gotten in the way. And now I come home way sleepy after a full schedule of teaching elementary kids, so I highly doubt I’ll see 50k. I’m aiming for 20k.
I haven’t checked for nano groups. I bet the closest would be in Kansai, probably meeting in Osaka, Kinda weirds me out, though. What would you dooooo with these other people? Sit quietly and write, just… together?
Exactly! It IS kind of weird. I’ve been going to a lot of write-ins this year, for the first time, and it’s pretty fun. So we do word sprints (ten minutes, write as much as you can) and we also just hang out getting wired on coffee and lamenting our wordcount/plot/characters/etc. Like an AA meeting, I guess. Except with no intention to quit.
